Through its groundbreaking products and services transfer, the company treat, analyze, monitor, and return water to the environment in public utility, industrial, residential and commercial building services. Also, to address resource challenges, Xylem provides a leading portfolio of smart metering, network technologies, and advanced data analytics solutions to build a more resilient infrastructure for water, electric, and gas utilities.
How Xylem Solves Water Challenges?
Xylem delivers a variety of pumps and packaged pumping systems which help users remain in full control around the clock. With its pump systems, Xylem draws water from sources and transports it to treatment plants, where filtration and disinfection technologies clean and purify water before it enters the system. Xylem pumps then shift water from treatment plants to storage facilities, and on through the distribution system to consumers and end users.
Xylem helps in processing water for heating, cooling, cleaning, circulating and mixing to industrial facilities. It also supports in providing water supply and HVAC heating and cooling systems to homes, to commercial properties, which include apartment buildings, retail stores, hospitals, and hotels. Besides, Xylem aids irrigation of farms, golf courses, and turf applications.
Once the clean water has served its purpose, Xylem pumps and transfers the wastewater again to treatment centers, where the company’s biological, filtration, and disinfection treatment equipment confiscate contaminants from the water before sending it for reuse.
Protecting Precious Water Resources
With deep application proficiency in the water industry, the company’s renowned global brands like YSI, SonTek, and HYPACK provide sensors and instruments for the measurement of water velocity, flow, and discharge which help clients detecting threats in real-time and build a resilient water conservation strategy. The brands help clients collect the data to analyze and make the report on a variety of water resource parameters. In an instance, the National Great Rivers Research and Education Center (NGRREC) wanted to establish a global network of real-time water quality monitoring platforms on great rivers around the world.
The NGRREC partnered with YSI to design and launch three monitoring buoys capable of real-time, continuous collection of water quality and phytoplankton data. In 2013, the first buoy named the PISCES platform (Pontoon for In-situ Characterization of Environmental Systems) was launched on the Upper Mississippi River System. The platform was outfitted with a YSI EXO2 sonde, UV nitrate sensor, weather sensor and data logger that delivered accurate and reliable data. Later, the NGRREC deployed a total of seven fully outfitted PISCES platforms that filled in the data gaps from discrete sampling and enabled the research team to address specific research questions.
